Day 5

Day 5: Today our day started bright and early. We were scheduled to eat breakfast at 8am at the hotel. Coming from the outside, a chant of a woman could be heard. We all made our way to the table where we enjoyed breakfast. After, our driver/tour guide loaded the vehicle we would be using for transportation with all of our belongings. We took a seat, fastened our seat belts, and were on the way to San Ignacio, Belize. The ride lasted approximately four hours. The scenery was nothing short of amazing. In every ride we are given the opportunity to expand our recognition of what life in Belize is like. From city to city life is very humble, many with little belongings but all with an abundance of culturally rich backgrounds. Additionally, the driver shared his knowledge through opportunities that he seen available, and explained to us more about places, objects, and people we seen along the way. For lunch we stopped at Hode’s Place in San Ignacio. The food was very delicious. We enjoyed some freshly made lemon juice and dessert. The ambient was very welcoming and we had a great view of a beach like, playground background. When we were done, we loaded our ride again and made our way to Cahal Pech Resort, the hotel where we were scheduled to spend the night at. The Cahal Pech is claimed to have the best view in San Ignacio. From above we could view the majority of the city. We quickly switched from one vehicle to another, as ahead of us lied a tour to the Xunantunich Maya ruin. We took a ferry ride to cross the river and get to our destination. It was one of a kind experience composed of 140 feet in altitude. Despite our trembling limbs, every step we climbed filled us with more excitement to reach the peak of the ruin. From the top we were able to observe the entire San Ignacio city along with the Guatemalan border. The entire composition of the ruin echoed so much history and the significance it holds to date. Maya populations used Xunantunich for court and serious business meetings. We then rode the ferry back over across the river and drove back to the hotel. At 7pm we were greeted for dinner with warm chicken, rice, salad, and other food goods. We ate dinner while discussing our daily highlights for the day. Roughly about 1.5 hours later, we went back to our rooms to provide ourselves with self-care, and rest for the next day adventures.
